Life on the Line

Human life has two phases: the dot phase and the line phase. The dot phase is the life we now experience, and it is short; we are born, we live, and we die. But we also have a line phase of life that goes on forever. If we plot both phases on a timeline, it becomes apparent that most of our existence will be lived on the line. So, it is wise and good to live our short dot lives with the line phase in view.

Scripture presents the people of God, the Church, with numerous metaphors that illuminate the truth that the church is the beloved people of God. Each metaphor distinguishes and highlights certain features or truths concerning this covenant bond between Christ and his Church.
