Summary:

What does it mean to be free? What is the scope and purpose of freedom? To be free in a post-modern culture is to supersede all authority, and to indulge without inhibition. Therefore, in an individualistic culture, the scope and purpose of freedom is limited to personal fulfillment. In contrast, according to Paul, to be a Christian is to be justified by faith in Christ—free from the guilt of sin, and the bondage of the law. However, the scope of the Christian freedom is not limited to personal fulfillment, but extends to loving and serving others in humility. The purpose of Christian freedom is to live a Spirit filled fruitful life. Christians, in other words, are free to be fruitful.
