Forgiveness means different things to different people. We all have heard the expression, “I can forgive but I can never forget!” Yet the Gospel of Jesus Christ shows us that forgiveness and reconciliation is far more comprehensive and radical than the lazy and minimalistic definitions we find in our culture today. This brief letter showcases the transforming power of the gospel, breaking down social barriers and redefining relationships through (and because of) forgiveness and grace. In Philemon, we see how the love of Christ turns injustice into reconciliation and slavery into family.
