Tropical Storm Harvey made landfall northeast of Corpus Christi, TX last week as a Category 4 hurricane. It then moved offshore before making landfall again just north of Corpus Christi at Copano Bay, this time as a Category 3 hurricane.
Houston, our country's fourth most-populated city, has been particularly hard hit. More than 50 inches of rain has fallen over parts of Houston, which is roughly equivalent to Houston's annual rainfall.
Mission to North America (MNA) is our denomination's mission organization in the United States. They have set up an emergency relief fund as well as a list of equipment and supplies that are needed. MNA has begun sending mobile bunkhouses, shower trailers and other equipment, pre-positioning these assets as close to the area of impact as possible. This will help expedite setting up volunteer staging areas as soon as safe access is permitted. MNA is working with PCA leaders in the affected areas to determine the best strategic host sites. To find out more, click here and you will be directed to their website.
Grace Presbyterian Church will also be collecting funds and sending them to MNA. You can give online by clicking on the button below and choosing "Harvey" as your designated fund. If you would like to give with a check, please write “Hurricane Harvey Response” on your check’s memo line. You can also text (631) 405-4483 with the amount you’d like to give, next to the word “Harvey” (Ex. $100 Harvey).
